Beauty for Life

Today there are a staggering number of treatments and recommendations to slow and even reverse the hands of time.  From the simplest "wear sunscreen " instructions to more agressive suggestions.
Since 1997, surgical cosmetic procedures have increased by 67%, while the number of non-surgical procedures increased by 471%.
Minimally invasive teatments affect the signs of aging without surgery or patient downtime, making them more attractive options than those in the past.  Here are some current optionson the market:
Microdrmabrasion:
What it is:  This procedure polishes and smoothes the skin to treat wrinkles, age spots and the effects of sun damage.
How it works:  Crystal particles are sprayed onto the face, and dead skin is suctioned away.
How long results last:  Microdermabrasion treatments are done on a weekly basis and clients usually needs six to twelve treatments to maintain results.
Skin Concepts recommends layering microdermabrasion with LED or microcurrent treatments to increase and maintain your results.  Layering two modalities that complement each other accutally changes your skin, increasing the health and beauty of your skin.
Botox:
What it is:  An injection treatment for reducing wrinkles.
How it works:  Botulinum toxin type A, the Botox protein complex, is injected into a patient's frown lines, relaxing the muscles and smoothing visible wrinkles.
How ling results last:  Three to four months.
Side effects:  Common side effects of Botox include soreness and bruising around the site where the chemical is injected into the skin, headaches, respiratory infection, nausea and flu syndrome.  Some people also experience temporary drooping in the eyelid area.
Curl Lift:
What it is:  Curl lift is a non-surgical facelift that produces immediate results.  This procedure's effects are less dramatic that those of a traditional facelift.
How it works:  Nylon threads are threaded under the skin through an insertion in the hairline.  The treads are tightened to lift different areas of the face.  The threads remain in the skin after the procedure, and scar tissue develops around them.
How ling results last:  The results are permanent, but as with a traditional facelift, the patient continues to age after the procedure and will expect to need a new procedure after serveral years. Curl Lift results vary, depending on how elastic the person's skin is.  This means that the results will be more significant in younger people with healthy skin.
Side Effects:  Curl Lift complications can include discomfort and infection.  Asymmetry is also possible, though it can be corrected.  The treads can be taken out, making the procecuure reversible.  However, if the treads are left in for 4-6 weeks, the results will be permanent, even if the threads are removed from the skin.
Thermage:
What it is:  Thermage combats sagging associated with aging by encouraging the production of new collagen in the skin.  This procedure is recommended for people ages 30-60.
How it works:  Radio frequencies are applied to the skin, which heats lower layers and tightens the skin.
How long the results last:  Some results are immediate, and the skin continues to tighten over a 2-6 month period.  Many patients only need one treatment, and effects last for a year or more according to the individual.  Not everyone visually responds to the treatment.  20% of patients cannot see a difference after treatments.
Side effects:  Side effects include pain, swelling and bumps that last for days or weeks.  Most people can return to work the day after treatment.  If too much energy is put into the skin, Thermage can burn at the surface and melt fat below the skin, which causes dimpling.
Many of these different procedures cause injury and trauma to the skin, muscles and nerves.  The body reacts to the injury by accelerating the healing process causing a tightening of the muscle.
